Occupied by Russian troops since the 1654 Treaty of Pereyaslav, Kyiv became a part of the Tsardom of Russia from 1667 on the Truce of Andrusovo and enjoyed a degree of autonomy. The suburban train service is fast, and unbeatably safe in terms of traffic accidents. Ticket prices are regulated by the city government, and the cost of one ride is far lower than in Western Europe.
