It was the turning point because I dont feel Im necessarily somebody whos going to try to be a trendsetter or break barriers or any of that stuff. I came here and I preached. Youve already ordained me. Some of them were not white and the churches said, Absolutely, we dont want them on our property. And I said, Then I cant be your pastor. And I was young, but it was just one of those non-negotiables. I was on that path and I was supposed to turn here and I turned here. And so theres, to me, its this mysterious sense of sometimes, just walking purely by faith and not by sight and not having any internal GPS that Im aware of, you know? By "supernaturalism" I mean a sensational supernatural claim partnered with experience that is predicated on ecstasy of God through mystical self-trancendence rather than unity with God and creation derived from experience. Morrison was an orphaned farm boy who turned aside opportunities to pursue a career as a military officer or statesmen in order to respond to a call to preach, a profession that in his first year paid him 25 cents a day. Heidi Wilcox: Because the assumption behind that representatives advice was this:since Asbury is confessional and conservative, your education is not well rounded enough. I think youve covered a lot. To maintain a libertarian view of freedom, theologies must accept that God maintains aneschatological distance. In other words, God does not interfere needlessly in our lives. Heidi Wilcox: And his vision that he is revealing through them for the church, not just in the U.S, but the global church around the world. It is in this environment that the atmosphere I was experiencing at ATS began to change and ultimately meet me with rejection, suspicion, and some subtle forms of ostracization.
